Blogoversary Celebration: Interview with Zoe from Bookhi + TWO GIVEAWAYS

27 February 2013

Here is the third of five interviews ( with giveaways ) of my best blogging buddies. I hope you enjoy!
Here, you can get to know Zoe from Bookhi

Hi Zoe!! *dive-bombs at you to give you a hug* how are you?  Would you like to introduce yourself and your awesome blog to those people who *cough* don’t know who you are *cough*?
Hi! *hugs back* I'm great, thank you! Well, to start off with, I'm Zoe and I run the YA book blog, Bookhi. I am 15 years old and am a huge book geek, an aspiring writer, TV addict and lover of all things weird and wonderful.

Why did you start blogging?
I blogged because it looked fun. Back then, I had NO idea that it would end up where I am today. When I started it up, I didn't know anything about memes, HTML gadgets, YA fiction and the fact that book reviewers actually get sent books for review. I had only read a couple of book blogs before but they looked so much fun to run so I thought I would give it a go. I am so glad I did because now blogging is a huge part of my life, I don't know what I would do without it!

If you could have a fictional best friend, who would it be and why?
Hermione Granger! I love Harry Potter and Hermione is one of my favourite characters. I can relate to her in a lot of different ways but the main reason is that she is friends with Harry and Ron... I could meet them too ;)

If you were stranded on a desert island with only the basic food and water, but you were allowed to take 5 books, what would they be?
ONLY 5? AHHH the torture of deciding :'( I would probably take 5 books from my TBR pile so I wouldn't get bored of reading the same ones over and over again. The top 5 on my TBR pile that I am most looking forward to read are: An Abundance of Katherines by John Green, Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare, Heart Shaped Bruise by Tanya Byrne and Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver.

I know you are in the middle of exams at the moment. How do you juggle that while reading and reviewing books for your blog?
With difficulty.
Yup. Next question.
(haha ok...)
Well, at the moment, I am not posting very much as I  have tons of revision to do. I am planning to get back into the swing of it soon because I am very behind in reviews. *sigh* However, I usually just get my homework out the way with no distractions and THEN blog. When I get home from school I have my tea, do my homework without turning on my laptop/phone/etc, and then blog. Sometimes I don't have time which is very frustrating, but most days I am able to do it.
(sounds like my method too!)

We are both self confessed The Fault in Our Stars addicts. But if you could meet Augustus and Hazel now, what would you say to them?
YEAH WE ARE! TFiOS IS THE BEST BOOK EVER :D *calms down* If I could meet Augustus and Hazel, I don't think I would be able to talk at all. I would probably stand there in awe and freak them out....
(that's one way of talking....;p)

If you had the chance to be a fictional character for the day, who would it be and why?
Ooh, interesting question! I think that I'd love to be Katniss. She is such a brave, kick-butt heroine and she has Peeta. Of course, I wouldn't like to be her for more than a day... I like being able to live :3

I think it’s a crime, but have you ever seen the film before reading the book? Although I know you have done that with The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas...and you STILL haven’t read it! *wields axe threateningly.*
I know, I know... I'm a monster :'( Nowadays, I try to read the book before the film (I have read all 3 Hunger Games, Divergent, and I am determined to read Beautiful Creatures before I watch the film) but I have had times in the past where I haven't For example, the first 4 Harry Potter books I read after seeing the film, but I was only a child so give me a break ;)
(*sighs* oh alright then!!)

Love triangles...yes or no?
Yes, to a certain extent. I can understand why people aren't very keen on them but some people hate them and I don't really get that. They aren't that bad, in my opinion! The ones I do like are in Clockwork Angel, Matched and The Hunger Games. However, I think the trend is getting a bit old now and I would like more original YA romance plots.
Some books work better without love triangles too. I think The Fault in Our Stars and Divergent wouldn't be as good if they involved other guys. Gus and Four will not be replaced!

Of all the books you’ve read, which setting has been your favourite?
HOGWARTS! No doubt. I would love to dive into Harry's world and perform magic and meet the rest of the clan. *happy sigh*

What is one of your pet peeves when it comes to books?
I don't have that many pet peeves but one thing I don't really like is insta-love. Insta-love is when two characters meet for the first time and immediately fall in love. I find this too unrealistic - who can fall in love at first sight? They don't even know the person!

What one book would you recommend to someone who doesn’t read?
An easy and gripping book which is quite fast paced. I think the main reason a person might not reason is because they find books boring, so a fast paced book will make them captivated by the book more than they normally would. I think I would recommend Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman or Divergent by Veronica Roth.

Have you ever met any authors before?
Not many, sadly. One came to my school when I was in Year 7, but his books were for children a lot younger than I was so I didn't really love his books. However, a couple of weeks ago, I went to a John Green event which was INCREDIBLE!!! I didn't meet him personally but I saw him on stage :) You can read a post on it here.
(not many?! I've met NONE.)

Share some of your favourite blogs with us?
I have millions of favourite blogs. Probably not literally but I still have tons that I follow! Here is a list of some of my favorites: Queen of Contemporary, Alex's Bookish Blog, Booktastic Reviews, Never Judge a Book, Blog of a Bookaholic, Bookster Reviews, The Mile Long Bookshelf, Booked Up!, ***Singing and Reading in the Rain***, Fluttering Butterflies, Realm of Fiction, Chicklish, A Reading Daydreamer, Rebecca-Books, Page-turner, The Teen Book Guru, The Beaucoup Review, The Book Parade, The Reflections of a Bookworm, A Day Dreamers World and, of course, yours! Wow... I think I am addicted to awesome book blogs.

Most stunning book cover you’ve ever seen?
and this:

Quick Questions:
Cats or Dogs? Dogs.. but I love cats too!
Bad Boys or Good? (fictional of course!) Hmmm... can I have both? I love geeky guys and but bad ones like Will Herondale are very swoonworthy ;)
E-books or Physical copies? Physical.
Inside or Outside? Inside.
British or American fictional boys? British, probably, since I don't know many American ones! Haha!
Delirium or Divergent? *drum roll* What kind of impossible question is this!? *hyperventilates* With a LOT of though... I would have to say Divergent :3

I'M hoping I win at least one!!!

  2. I haven't read either of the books offered as prizes, but I have read Dance of Shadows which Zoe mentioned. It's easily one of the best, most gripping books I have ever read!

    Thanks for the giveaway. :)

    The Mile Long Bookshelf

  3. OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD (I'm sorry, this is just what the slightest mention of TFiOS does to me! 0_0) if I could meet Hazel and Augustus (which would be like a dream come true!!) I would probably just stand and scream (whilst jumping up and down and flapping my hands excitedly like a crazy penguin) for five whole minutes before any talking could be done! Actually, no, maybe I'd try to turn down my weirdness cos, you know, I wouldn't want to, like scare them away or anything... 0_0

Omg, Zoe, I STILL haven't read The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas either!! I always try to read books before movies, but that's one of the few situations where I've been naughty hehe ;)

AAAHH HOGWARTS!!!! *warbling somewhat out of key...* HOGWARTS, HOGWARTS, HOGGY WARTY HOGWARTS!!!! Without a doubt one of the best fictional worlds ever created!!

And you're totally right, FOUR AUGUSTUS WILL NOT BE REPLACED! Well said, Zoe! *approving glance*

  6. Awwwwww! Thank you to everyone for saying those lovely things about me :)

Thanks for having me, Hawwa! That is so nice of you to ask me to be part of your blogoversary.

I will definitely enter the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas giveaway... you're right, maybe I will finally read it this time ;)

  7. I've read both of these and they were both amazing! I'm going to enter anyway though, cause I'd like to own them both ;)
