COLLECTIONS: FEBRUARY FAVOURITES

11 February 2016

FEBRUARY: the month of love (apparently: valentine's day means everything i see in the shop has hearts on or is pink which makes my cold, cold heart shrink away in disgust), the month of exams, the month of -oh-good-grief-it's-been-a-month-of-2016-and-nothing-has-changed-except-i-am-slowly-gaining-more-grey-hairs; the month of stress, the month of revision, mock exams and the month of rain. lot's of rain. It has signified the start of a creative collaboration, the continuation of a creative collaboration, rumblings of further collaborations and the start of a whole new art project for college, in addition to many hours spent pinning aesthetically pleasing photos of bedroom inspiration on my board: it's way past my bedtime. Here are some of my favourite things/that have happened/I have done this month:
1 // ART PROJECT: UNIT 4: 'letters & numbers' (and how meanings can be conveyed through them). having wanted to do a typographical/lettering based art project for a while, when i saw that one of the exam-set titles revolved around letters, i immediately jumped at the chance (and also because i was feeling extremely uninspired by the other options..) i had actually originally wanted to do an abstract project as i have around half the time (8 weeks) i had for the last project even though i have to complete the same amount of work, but maybe i can push this one to something semi-abstract. as of yet (a week in) i have no idea where i'm taking this and i would hugely appreciate any recommendations of artist research i could take a look at.
2 // ACCESSORIES: namely, watches. i'm very much a style-lover at heart, but when you wake up every day, go to college in the dark, spend your day sitting in a classroom, then return home in the dark, your motivation to dress nicely disappears out the window because that means ironing clothes, deciding what clothes to wear in the first place, and then probably feeling less comfortable than you would be if you had just worn your pyjamas to college. (disclaimer: i wear an abaya, so no-one can see them. it would be more than slightly weird if i went to college every day in pyjamas that everyone could see.) i recently made a style board on pinterest, although i still wear almost the same clothes every day..but you know, baby steps: same clothes, different jewellery is the way to start! (pictured: a house of watches's sekonda watch, in one of my favourite colours that dominates most of my bedroom and clothing items (again: adventurous is a key word i need to utilise more when i dress, but then, it is a beautiful colour..)            3 // COLLABORATIONS: i am involved in two creative collaborations as of right now, one which you should already know about: a journalling collaboration  called #OHJOURNALETC conjured up by myself and my vv. good blogging friend Areeba in order to collect all the artistic souls in the blogland/instagram under one roof to share ideas and inspiration; and the other spearheaded by another blogging/instagram friend of mine Jess who just wrote a very apt and succinct post on the spirit of her/our (hers, mine and the six other creatives/entrepreneurs/business owners) project: #THECOLLABORATORS2016 / here's a snippet explaining what the collaboration is all about that i stole borrowed from her blog: "a four week series on instagram covering the inside life of a creative/business owner/entrepreneur, showing people what we do day to day, what we love + hate about working from home, how we balance work + personal life and what our hardest day of the week looks like (coughmondaycough)." [go check 'em out!]
4 // PINTEREST: but why am i even mentioning this, it crops up on at least every other post i write. [but really, if you don't have the time/energy/inspiration to decorate your bedroom yet because of exam revision That-Which-May-Not-Be-Named, go & stalk my pinterest, or other people's pinterest] it is an entire universe of interior design that you could only wish to recreate - one day - summer - i aim to decorate my room, would you like me to post about it when it happens?
DO YOU HAVE ANY FEBRUARY FAVOURITES?

  3. I second (third?) the room tour! I want to redecorate mine too but I don't think we got the money for that, and I'm pretty sure my sister has a stronger passion to redecorate our space than I do, so I'll leave her to it.

    1. Hehehe ok, and yeah. I won't be re-decorating', rather re'-designing' e.g hanging up art etc. I'M SO EXCITED.

  4. Lovely art as always <3 And YES ROOM TOUR. A typography/lettering project sounds quite cool -- not familiar with that many artists but I think Dian @ The Happy Candle does some hand lettering? Different jewellery totally makes all the difference :D

  5. Hi Hawwa, been a long time since I stopped by, hope you are well. :)

Looking forward to your art project with letters and numbers - love the one with the 'B' that you've done on Instagram! :) I also love the collab you've been doing with Areeba, your journals are gorgeous! I've always wanted to make a journal but unfortunately can't seem to find the time to do it up.

I also love the watches and I've seen some that you posted on Instagram - they're so lovely! Makes me want to get a new one myself haha. And I'm loving your style board on Pinterest too, the abaya styles are so modest and beautiful, I've been thinking of getting a maxi cardi to wear to college, and I do have maxi skirts too, but most of the time, my go-to outfit includes jeans and a simple top with a midi cardi.

And I'd love to see how your room turns out when you're done decorating it! Have a lovely February!
