WRECK THIS JOURNAL | a progression of sorts

05 September 2015

It has been a while since I've done anything in my wreck this journal, and honestly I think it's because I'm such a sporadic and mood-driven creative. I tend to have fast-paced spurts of one art medium, then i get tired of it and move onto something else, and that cycle carries on until it returns full circle. it's the same with my reading habits, i'm definitely a mood reader and i don't think that will ever change.
since the last post, i've done six more prompts. not much, but not bad either considering how long it takes me to actually think up an idea to fill the blank page in the first place!
1. DRAW LINES WHILE IN MOTION, ON THE BUS, ON THE TRAIN, WHILE WALKING || pretty simplistic, just a lot of messy lines but hey, i like the photo i took of it so that counts for some thing right? right? yes it does.
2. PRESS LEAVES & OTHER FOUND THINGS ||  another lazy simple lazy response to a prompt, and i didn't even find the one leaf that made an appearance, my little sister found it and gave it to me ---
3. POKE HOLES IN THIS PAGE USING A PENCIL || if you've read my #essentialsforbiblio post you'll have already seen this response to the prompt, but i thought i'd feature it again because it took a blooming long time. and i don't even know why. all i had to do was colour in lots of circles (and i study art, what?!)
4. TEAR STRIPS, RIP IT UP || i used this prompt as an excuse to practise my mandalas, which these circle type things are apparently called - i call them henna patterns... - anyway. this prompt is actually merged with the one right after it which was GLUE, STAPE, OR TAPE THESE PAGES TOGETHER; so i did patterns on that page, then stuck it all to the (original) page - or what was left of it once i'd torn the strips, so it was all layered and (supposedly) pretty, as i did the bottom page in colour and the top one with black pen. not sure if it worked..
5. ASK A FRIEND TO DO SOMETHING DESTRUCTIVE TO THIS PAGE || no, my friends are not wannabe queen of the fairies, my little sister is, and although i personally didn't complete this page, i like it (and not just because it says i am 'queen of art' on my portrait) (p.s if you're wondering why my sister would call me a term for food, no, she does not mean onion bhaji - baaji means 'older sister', which is what she calls me because i am old)
6. POUR, SPILL, DRIP, SPIT, FLING YOUR COFFEE HERE || i have never drunk tea, or coffee (no, please don't throw things at me) but i like herbal tea (i told you i'm old) so yeah, no coffee was spilled here, just a few mint leaves...
DO YOU HAVE A WRECK THIS JOURNAL? WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE PROMPT TO COMPLETE?

  2. Pff I thought it was called Wreck This Journal??? Yours is like a creative arty masterpiece!!!! It looks beautiful. And ah I too am a 'mood' orientated person. It kinda sucks but it means when I DO get round to doing something (in my case, writing) it isn't as forced and can be rewarding. Sometimes... though I am always WAY too harsh on myself and I think that blocks up the creative flow sometimes. WHERE DO I FIND THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!?! ♡

    1. Um yeah, oops? Hahah I'm just a HUGE perfectionist which means I DON'T LIKE MAKING MESSES. It scares me. NO. NO MESSES. I tried though...I mean, none of them look as good as I'd hoped they would..;P
Yeah, I find it sucks a LOT of the time, still trying to find a balance - bUT, i do agree with what you said about writing!

Oh my goodness, Hawwa, you're just increasing my desperation for a Wreck This Journal of my own. :P Honestly, I just adore seeing all of the beautiful ways people fulfil the prompts - and yours are no less lovely. 1. Thank you so much Topaz! I think the most annoying thing about having a Wreck This Journal is seeing other people's responses to prompts and thinking UGH THAT'S SUCH A GOOD IDEA WHY DIDN'T I DO THAT.

  6. I have a Wreck This Journal and it's as new as when I bought it. I'm just so afraid of messing it up but then again, I suppose that's the point. I should order another one, so I'll feel safe knowing I have a back-up copy and wreck away on the copy I have now. Heh.

Also, I looooove what you did with the poked holes and balloons *_*

*scuttles off to order another copy on TBD*

  8. i finally got a wreck this journal a few months ago but i've barely done anything besides mess up the introduction page where you fill out your name etc, this post gives me motivation to get started and do some prompts though! i love what you've done with all your pages, especially since they feature more of your beautiful illustrations! especially your mandalas, they are SO BEAUTIFUL. i feel like if you made a colouring book with your illustrations, i would definitely buy it haha. thank you so much for sharing this with us hawwa!! :)

  9. Oh, those look gorgeous! (Although I consider notebooks to be absolutely precious and that they should only be written in except for the little doodles that help me think, I will let this one go because of how incredibly gorgeous these are) I love that first one. I don't know, something about that pattern makes me love it. And I love the patterns in the ripped one :)

  11. LOVE IT!! My birthday is October 13th so I'm currently compiling a shortlist of books to ask for, and Wreck this Journal is up there! I LOVE yours. So so pretty. I thiiiink my fave is the mandala page, but I love them all. Your tea illustration is gorgeous, and so are the leaves, and ... all of them!

I love the photography, too. I hate how talented you are. (Psst ... study art instead of history, why not?!)

BUT HAWWA-- ~throws a lot of things at you~ TEA IS LIFE! TEA IS LOVE! TEA IS EVERYTHING RIGHT WITH THE WORLD! I'm going to go and make some tea right now ...
