COLLECTIONS: FAVOURITE BOOKS FROM 2014

09 January 2015

apparently i read a lot of books in twenty fourteen. now as i don't use goodreads, i don't really keep track of the exact number, so my guess is i read nearly 200 books? probably about 150 in the months before i started college - because even though i now have hardly any time to read due to work and revision restrictions i always read at least one chapter of a book before i go to bed, and if i am re-reading [which i tend to do a lot now, especially in book slumps] i can read a lot faster than i usually do.
therefore, i can't really remember all the books i actually read in twenty fourteen; some have probably faded out of my memory due to their lack of excitement: the books i do remember i read in this year though are the ones that made their mark due to awesomeness.
.1 clearly i'm going to start off with a bang, aka. the finale to one of my favourite trilogies yet: DREAMS OF GODS AND MONSTERS i know a lot of people who were fans of this series thought the third book was the worst, not a terrible ending, but not as good as the previous books [basically, really good.] however i for one, did not think so at all, it just. read it.
.2 THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS blew. my. mind. the ending was incredible, the actual plot was really intriguing and the characters were fantastic. i'm linking the title of this book up with ruby's mini-review of it because i think it sums it up perfectly. and if you hadn't guessed already, if you've not read the book, i'd really recommend you give it a go.
.3 THE NIGHT CIRCUS was clearly one of my favourite reads of this year, and if you didn't know already then i question your priorities because it means you haven't been reading my posts. it's one of those books i probably wouldn't read in its entirety again, i have re-read parts of the books but the thing that stops me reading the whole novel again is that i can remember so clearly what happens that there is no real point, it stayed with me the first time and it's too long a book to re-read just for the sake of it.
.4 i'm not even going to mention the book thief because duh. my fourth pick is ELEANOR AND PARK; it was so sweet and lovely and magical and majestic and that ending i need to know what happened well i kind of do but still i need those words in black ink on white paper staring at me accusingly like a child who has been crying for ages and you still haven't given them what they want and i know weird analogy i don't even know if it makes sense and where is my punctuation?
.5 finally, CODE NAME VERITY: because my heart. i mean, my review tells all but seriously? i want to write a book like that. whether my desires will develop into fruition is unlikely but goals.

  2. Love this post, the books mentioned and the photography! I haven't read all of these yet, but I plan to. How come you don't use Goodreads to track your reading? Out of curiosity as I don't know of many bloggers who don't use it. R x

    1. Awwh thank you and WHAT YOU MUST! Hmm, honestly because I am not at all a fan of goodreads, I just find it highly annoying, i don't know why though because so many people love it - i think because of the time and the effort it takes when i could just use good ol' pen and paper in a notebook! Also I find the whole messaging/notification thing annoying too! I'm just a pessimistic girl. lol.
Basically the thing is, I'd rather write it all down rather than waste time trawling through everything to track my reading etc on goodreads! :)

  3. I love your photography in this post and I'm glad you enjoyed these books. The Girl With All The Gifts' blurb is so ambiguous, I can't help but want to read it.

    1. ADVICE BEFORE READING: buy a big box of tissues
then make sure you're comfortable, because you won't want to put it down until it's done.

Heir of Fire was of course afjldkasdfda but cliffhanger and I HATE THAT CLIFFHANGER.

  10. I completely agree with all these choices! :D Heir of Fire was such a great continuation to the Celaena's story. The new characters, the plot twists...everything was absolutely fantastic, and I have no doubt the 4th book will be equally as fantastic.

And Code Name Verity! *cries* Definitely deserves that spot on your list - such a heart-breaking and beautifully written book.

Thanks for sharing, and congrats on 200 books! :D Here's to a great 2015!

    1. Yes yes yes I'd really recommend it. It's a bit adult in places so I don't know if you're comfortable with that but it's not too bad and IT'S JUST SO GOOD.
I shall check it out now! :)

  13. I really should read Code Name Verity soon. I have a copy and everything, have had a copy for… a tentative 6 months, but yet I have not started it at all yet. I WILL. In the next… three months, I shall read it. I think I have some hope of achieving that.
I read Daughter of Smoke and Bone in January and OH MY. How amazing. I shall also be reading the second two books (and the novellas and short stories and everything) in the next months. It was incredibly beautiful.
