day one || #ukyagames :: meet the [author] tributes

01 May 2014

I'm Susie Day, author of UKYA books The Twice-Lived Summer of Bluebell Jones and My Invisible Boyfriend, and the Pea series for 8-12s. My special weapons include being able to pronounce Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, and never, ever being more than two feet from a jar of peanut butter. (Crunchy, of course.) Bring on the games!
Kim Curran is a writer, advertising copywriter and boss-level procrastinator. She got her first typewriter when she was eight, had a poem she wrote published when she was nine, and that was it. Kim was hooked on writing. She is the author of SHIFT, CONTROL & DELETE (out august 2014) and GLAZE (out May 14). She lives in South London with her husband and series of imaginary friends.
Marie Louise-Jensen: reader, writer, lover of fresh air and exercise, cinema goer and hopeless romantic despite a lifetime of learning to know better! My family are my world and my world is a treasured space.
Ellen Renner is the author of CASTLE OF SHADOWS and CITY OF THIEVES, middle-grade steampunk fantasy set in an alternative Victorian England called Quale. Her new YA fantasy series begins with TRIBUTE, published March 2014 by Hot Key Books in the UK and in April by Germany's DTV Junior. TRIBUTE is about a world divided by magic where a telekenetic minority enslave the 'non-magic' majority, and literacy is a crime. It's the story of sixteen-year-old Zara, one of the elite mages who rebels against her own kind. Ellen likes to write about imperfect but strong characters who face tough moral choices, and she loves adventure!
Hello I'm Non Pratt. I wrote a book called TROUBLE which came out in March about a pregnant fifteen-year-old girl, Hannah, and Aaron, the boy who pretends to be the father.
Hi, I'm Laure Eve. I can do the splits and I really like cookie dough ice cream and 90s teen high school films. I wrote a book called FEARSOME DREAMER and its sequel, THE ILLUSIONISTS.
Hi. I'm Sophia and I write books about awesome girls in difficult situations. So far I've written the Threads series, The Look and You Don't Know Me. My new adventure story, The Castle, comes out in the summer. Let the Games begin!
I’m Kendra and I’m the author of YA paranormal Glimpse, which is inspired by Alfred Noyes’ poem ’The Highwayman’. I’m also a chocolatier, so in the Games I’m planning to camouflage myself Peeta-style, then trip my fellow tributes up on melted chocolate. Be afraid!
Hi, I'm Emma Pass, author of ACID and THE FEARLESS (both out now!). I wrote my first novel in maths lessons aged 13 and never got caught (hooray!) but now I have to count on my fingers when I want to add anything up (oops). I'm really excited to be taking part in the #ukyagames!
Hello, my name is Jo Cotterill! Albert Einstein once said 'The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination' and I think imagination is the BEST thing anyone can have! I love writing stories about people with real dilemmas and difficult situations, but I'm also a sucker for a happy ending! I live in Oxfordshire and love cheese, chocolate and sunshine. My latest book is LOOKING AT THE STARS.
I'm Carmen, author of Cross My Heart, Secrets at St Jude's and lots of other novels. Unlike my heroines I'm not much of a brave, action girl so eeeek, I will probably get knocked out of of any kind of contest embarrassingly early. But let's give it a go!
Tribute Natasha Ngan here! I'm a young adult author from St Albans, Hertfordshire - my first novel THE ELITES came out from Hot Key Books last year. Outside of writing, I work as a freelance social media consultant and run award-winning fashion and photography blog Girl in the Lens with my very wonderful boyfriend Callum (www.girlinthelens.com). Follow me at: http://natashangan.com or on Twitter: @girlinthelens
