YA historical fiction Out of the Easy by ruta sepetys… seriously. this book. if you've not read it then...i don't consider you a true friend because i have probably recommended it to you at some point and yOU STILL HAVEN'T READ IT. ;P also the book thief by markus zuzak. i'm actually still reading it now, half way through, BUT I ALREADY LOVE IT.

FAVOURITE PASSAGE // QUOTE FROM A BOOK YOU READ IN 2013?
“usually we walk around constantly believing ourselves. "i'm okay" we say. "i'm alright".  but sometimes the truth arrives on you and you can't get it off.  that's when you realize that sometimes it isn't even an answer--it's a question.  even now, i wonder how much of my life is convinced.” - markus zusak, the book thief.
“i like that every page in every book can have a gem on it. it's probably what i love most about writing--that words can be used in a way that's like a child playing in a sandpit, rearranging things, swapping them around. they're the best moments in a day of writing -- when an image appears that you didn't know would be there when you started work in the morning.”  - markus zusak, the book thief
(i actually have tons and tons of favourite quotes from this book, but i am going to restrict myself to two - you however, must now read this book if you haven't already, to discover them all.)

  1. The Book Thief is historical, not contemporary! Tut tut, Hawwa... ;P Anyway, glad to hear you're enjoying it because I LOVE it! Also just read your Pocket Scavenger review and the pictures are gorgeous! I'm really looking forward to Laini Taylor's Dreams of Gods and Monsters coming out too, because even though I haven't actually read the first two books yet I've heard so many good things and I really enjoyed a collection of her short stories. So I decided to wait until DoG&M is published and them read all three books together. Will definitely be looking out for the books you recommend, really enjoyed reading this!

Yeah, I've heard that this survey takes a long time to write so even though I really like reading it I think I'm just going to do a post about my fave books of 2013 instead (although that could also take a long time...) ;P

  4. Ahhhhh HAWWA THIS POST WAS PERFECT, OKAY? OKAY. << the tfios reference was totally unintentional…

Gah The Book Thief is basically any word nerd's dream – the quotes are so perfect and lyrical and bleurghh… I LOVE IT SO MUCH! Really recommend I Am the Messenger by the same author – it's a tad slow to begin with but has the most incredible ending.

OH AND DREAMS OF GODS AND MONSTERS *flails* HANDS DOWN MY MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK OF 2014!

  5. Amazing choices, Hawwa! I NEED a copy of Eleanor and Park, as well as Shadow and Bone; the whole series seems incredible! LOVED Crown of Midnight - Celaena Sardothien is certainly memorable, to say the least! I also adored The Elites, and am VERY excited for Picture Perfect. More Harriet - bring it on!

  6. I LOVE Wither too! Except I didn't enjoy the sequel nearly as much! :( I SHALL HAVE TO READ OUT OF THE EASY BEFORE YOU DISOWN ME! I didn't enjoy Between Shades of Gray as much as everyone else though... Will that affect my enjoyment of it?! :'( Eleanor and Park is on my TBR so all I have to do is pick it up one day soon! AND I MUST GET ON TO LAINI TAYLOR'S SERIES ASAP! xD

*cries* I MUST READ THESE BOOKS SO I CAN BE REOWNED! That kinda makes it sound like you owned me... Does it help if I say Daughter of Smoke and Bone is on my Christmas wishlist? ;P

  7. I've enjoyed reading all of these end-of-the-year book surveys, and yours is great! 1984 is one of my favorite classics as well - I loved the idea that they could shrink the English language so much that thought crime would be impossible because THERE WOULD BE NO WORDS WITH WHICH TO COMMIT IT. :O And those last four words destroyed me. The Book Thief is on the top of my 2014 TBR, and your quotes make me even more excited. :) I hope we both have a lovely reading year in 2014!

  9. Great choices Hawwa! Congratz for getting through all of the questions. I posted mine yesterday and I feel like I've run a marathon. P&P is one classic that has been nagging at me for a while now and I promised myself I was going to read it these holidays, how did you find it? I also read Fangirl and Eleanor and Park and they are both fantastic. Fangirl is so good but surprisingly I think I preferred E&P. THRONE OF GLASS, TFIOS, TID, GEEK GIRL, RUBY REDFORD <3 *fangirl freak out because of all the amazing books*

      *freaks out with you*
Thanks so much for stopping by! :) <3
